Overview

Under the faculty of technology first institute established is Maharashtra Academy of Navel Education & Training (MANET) in 2001 to impart world class Maritime Training. Nearly 1, 00,000 ships ply the vast oceans of the earth. These ships are in constant need of trained and skilled personnel to remain a float and keep marine trade ticking. It has an experienced and competent faculty, an excellent infrastructure and excellent facilities to provide the best possible study environment for budding marine cadets.

MANET is offering four years Marine Engineering & Three years B.Sc. Nautical Science courses are approved by D.G. Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, and Government of India & recognized UGC under MIT Art, Design & Technology University, Raj Baugh, Loni Kalbhor, and Pune, India. The course encompasses all aspects of maritime training, which includes mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering as well as computer science, navigation, seamanship and basic sciences.

MANET campus has well-equipped laboratories, workshops, luxuriously furnished hostels, outdoor and indoor sports facilities, a swimming pool and a ship-in-campus. A boat club available for the cadets to gain proficiency in boating, which is a crucial need for their maritime careers.

The ship-in-campus 'Training Ship-Viswanath' assembled at the MANET campus depicts an actual ship. It is an excellent facility that familiarizes cadets with on board machinery and systems with operational maintenance routine. MITSUI OSK Lines Maritime (India) Ltd. (MOLMI) has opened a training center at MANET and commissioned 360 degree bridge SIMULATOR that adds the learning features of seafarer activities which is one of its kinds in Asia. Where MITSUI OSK employes as well as cadets are trained.

The placement cell at MANET assists and supports the cadets in getting jobs in reputed the shipping companies. Nine batches of MANET have already joined the bustling maritime profession and are working successfully over the globe.

Importance of pre-sea training

Ships are only as good as the persons who man them. Safety and efficiency of ships are dependent upon the professional competence and dedication to duty, of the seafarers on board the ships. To achieve this, maritime education and training, and within that, the pre-sea training, is of vital importance. MANET conducts, pre-sea induction courses for merchant navy with an aim to excel and abide by the guidelines as set by Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India.
To ensure that the competence of Indian seafarers, is accepted throughout the world, improvements have been made from time to time in the training of seafarers in India. With advances in technology, and consequent changes, especially due to STCW 2010, the international concept and practice of maritime training has undergone major changes in quality and quantity.

Objectives of pre-sea training

Candidates for pre-sea training come from varying social, cultural, geographical, linguistic and economic backgrounds. On completion of training, the cadets join ships, and are required to be able to man the ships effectively and to have the knowledge, maturity and balance that enables them to react competently and resourcefully in an emergency. They should also know the manner of working and of behaving in their respective work-stations, accommodation, recreation rooms, dining halls and in all formal and informal contexts on board the ship and elsewhere. Bearing this in mind, the objective of MANET is to provide marine officers who have undergone extensive training in all domains which includes classroom training, outdoor activities such as parade, physical training, swimming, boat-work, games, extra-curricular activities etc.

MANET aims:

  • To be the world’s foremost maritime training Institute
  • To inculcate influential qualities like team spirit, leadership, cheerful obedience to orders of superiors which are needed for a seafarer.
  • To be a preferred source of marine officers which are best suited for the seafaring profession.
  • To be a renowned Institute which encourages values and propagates the culture of peace.
  • To provide Marine officers having world class standards of discipline, decency, diligence and caliber.
